For our latest project, we created kites and even got to fly them! We also used Book Creator to document our progress and even learned a fact or two about the history of kites along the way.
The beginning of school saw the Advanced Art and AP Studio Art students hard at work preparing for several art contests. We had a great time preparing our submissions for our visit to Central Washington University in October. “Look At Me”-was the theme for the annual high school art exhibit that featured student self-portraits in their gallery during Central’s College Art Day. 18 of us went to Central and participated in 2 studio classes each, went on tours of the campus and learned about the art program at Central. Best of all, 3 HHS art students won scholarships to Central based on their self-portrait submissions.
Congratulations to Olivia Ranes for her $1,000.00 scholarship…..
To Tommy Oleson for his $1,000.00 scholarship …
And to Markus Orman for his $1,100.00 scholarship!!!!!
Also in October Advanced Art and AP Art students submitted entries to Endangered Art4Apes. The show called for entries featuring endangered or extinct animals. The non-profit, Center for the Apes, based in Florida sponsored the event and all proceeds went to maintaining chimpanzees in their sanctuary. Congratulations to Aspen Smith for winning $100.00 for her entry: Red Panda.
Now that we are moving into winter, we have turned our attention to the annual PTO sponsored Reflections Contest and to preparing for our Regional High School Art Show in late February. Here is a little peak at some of the great work being produced in all my classes.
We have had a great start to the year and room 1312 has been a buzz with creativity!
Jewelry I students have completed their first project-modern day versions of the fibula.
Jewelry II students are wrapping up their textured, layered and riveted cuffs.
Studio II students have turned in their amazing first projects focusing on creating space on a 2-D surface in their cloth, sphere and person drawings.
Advanced Art and AP Studio Art students have been madly working on two pieces for two different contests. See our activities page here for more images and information.
Room 1312 is a bustling environment of creativity! Students use their time in the classroom to engage their critical thinking and problem solving skills. This News page of the class website will be where you can see what we are doing in the classroom on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Scroll down to read more.
